Pre school courses are a big hit!

Our pre school courses are proving really popular! Our pre school courses are 6 weeks long for half an hour at a time ideal as a taster session before starting the main stream martial art classes on our time table. The are for children aged 3-5 years to have a go at Martial Arts in a more relaxed and fun environment. These sessions take place on a Monday and Saturday, times can be viewed on our website and pre-booking is essential as places are limited.

WMKF British Championships

Spartan Academy members were invited to attend the WMKF British Championships and qualifier for the World Championships in Malta later on this year.
8 Spartans attended on the day competing in patterns and sparring with 3 students making their debut at the competition. It was a really good day with Spartans coming home with a total of 6 medals, 3 Gold and 3 Silver.

European Open

Back in April Spartans attended the WTKA European open championships in Sheffield, 6 Spartans entered the competition with one student, Jake Darling making his debut. Competition was tough on the day but Spartans managed to come home with 2 Bronze a Silver and a Gold medal, with Drew winning the Gold in boys Light continuous meaning he now has a European title under his belt.

Black Belt success

5 Spartans stepped up to the plate on Sunday 22nd of February to show examiners just what they were made of as they put themselves forward for Black Belt examination. Three of the younger students, of which the youngest was 9,  joined Spartans when the doors first opened back in 2010 which is where their Martial Arts training began. Two of the older members grading have trained in several Martial Arts over the years and were well over due their grading to achieve Black Belt status. Examiners came from across the UK to see if the Spartans had what it took to achieve their Black Belts, unsurprisingly they all walked away with smiles on their faces and Black Belts in hand.

Peterborough series

For those who were unaware back in June 24 Spartans attended the 2nd competition in the Peterborough series, this was their largest squad we have had compete to date. Spartans had a successful day with our debut fighters and more regular competitors getting placed. There were some extremely impressive performances with a special mention for Kyle Humphreys who earned the referees quote of “fight of the tournament”.

Club passes first Black belt students

On Feb 9th 2014 4 students from the academy took one of the biggest steps in their Martial Arts careers, their first degree Black belt grading. All four students have been training consistently since the doors of the Club opened back in May 2010, some even longer having taken a long break in their training for one reason or another. The candidates were really put through their paces being asked to demonstrate freestyle techniques, traditional techniques, self defence, pad work and sparring for both Spartans examiners and our external examiners. All students passed with the highest marks of distinction and proved that they were more than worthy of the Black belts they are all wearing now.

We can’t wait for the next Black Belt grading that will be taking place later on in the year!

Spartans clear up at the Peterborough series!

Spartans Academy recently took a squad of 11 to the first competition of the well established Peterborough series, the first tournament of the year for the club. Members ranging from 8 years old to their mid 40’s battled their way throughout the day to get a total of 11 trophies for the club! 5 Bronze, 4 Silver and 1 Gold, for lots of students this was their very first tournament and they did themselves proud!! It was also great to see some of the students returning to the mats after some time out from the tournament circuit. We have many more tournaments to come throughout the year so watch this space!!

They did it!!!

Spartans completed their 8 hour training session on Saturday 2nd of March! Lots of members took part in the challenge to help raise much needed funds for the charity help for heroes. Members punched, kicked and fought their way through the day from 9am-5pm.  The pennies are still rolling in and the final figure is still to be announced however, the initial indication is that we will have raised around £2,500!! It is a fantastic amount and you should all be extremely proud of what you have achieved!

If anyone would like to still make a donation they can do so at Help for heroes

Spartans Medal haul continues!

Spartans Kickboxing Academy took 11 of its students to the Tmas2 tournament on Sunday 20th of Feb at the Wildcats Arena in Nottingham.  This was the second tournament of the series following on from the World qualifying tournament last November where our Spartans managed to get a Gold and Bronze medal.

After a long day, our Spartans battled till the end and manged to get 3 Golds, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals.  This brings the Spartans medal total so far to 4 golds, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze medals, which is fantastic considering the academy has only been open a year in May.  The students passion, enthusiasm and determination is fantastic, there are some very talented fighters within the club and they are all focusing on the tournaments that lie ahead in 2011 including the WOMAA World Championships in August this year.
